Month of Photography Denver exhibit features Colorado Ballet dancers
Sanya Andersen-Vie - February 28, 2013
DENVER – Photographer Allen Birnbach will feature Colorado Ballet dancers in the “Limelight” Exhibition during Month of Photography Denver. The exhibit will be featured in the Wells Fargo Atrium, 1740 Broadway, Denver CO throughout the Month of Photography Denver and is free to the public.
Sales of photo prints will benefit Colorado Ballet.
“Allen has one of the finest eyes for photographing dancers that I have ever seen and a true pleasure to work with,” said Gil Boggs, Artistic Director of Colorado Ballet. “This project is a great way to highlight the beauty, elegance and artistry of our dancers.”
Birnbach photographed eight members of the company for this project and collaborated with the dancers as part of his artistic process. The large-scale prints in this series are highly stylized, with 1940’s Hollywood style lighting and coloring reminiscent of mid-1800’s photography.
“Shooting digitally has transformed my relationships with my subjects because they see the work in real time,” Birnbach said. “That builds a sense of trust and partnership that can only result in stronger images than was ever possible in the film world.”
Birnbach’s career has spanned the worlds of advertising and fine art photography for over 30 years. Client assignments have taken him to over 20 countries, and his fine art photography has been exhibited in galleries worldwide.
Month of Photography Denver is a city-wide collaborative project that runs during March and April and features community events and exhibits that highlight fine art photography.
