Sayaka Ruggles

Sayaka joined Colorado Ballet in 2001 after receiving her dance training at Kumamoto Ballet and graduating from Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. With Colorado Ballet, she danced roles including Kitri in Don Quixote, Sugar Plum Fairy, Dew Drop Fairy, and Clara in The Nutcracker, Mina in Dracula, and danced lead roles in Twyla Tharp’s In The Upper Room and Nine Sinatra Songs (That’s Life). Sayaka has also had leading roles with choreographers including Darrell Grand-Moultrie, Lila York, Dwight Rhoden, Michael Pink, Lynne Taylor-Corbett and Martin Fredmann. Sayaka had played the Ragdoll on the Gemini Award-Winning Canada’s YTV children’s series, The Toy Castle, and she was nominated in the 2003 Gemini Awards for Best Actress. Sayaka retired from Colorado Ballet as a soloist in 2011, and graduated Cum Laude from Colorado State University with Bachelor Degree in Dance in 2013. She was an adjunct professor at Colorado State University where she taught ballet technique.
