Scientific and Cultural Facilities District

Friday, June 30, 2017

SCFDColorado Ballet would like thank one of its largest long-time supporters, the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD).  For more than 28 years, Colorado Ballet has received support from this dedicated sales tax.  Last November, voters reaffirmed their support of SCFD by voting to extend the SCFD tax, which supports the arts and encourages the creation of a vibrant, flourishing cultural scene in Colorado!

Since 1989, Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) has distributed funds from a 1/10 of 1% sales and use tax to cultural facilities throughout the seven-county Denver, Colorado metropolitan area (Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson counties). The funds support cultural facilities whose primary purpose is to enlighten and entertain the public through the production, presentation, exhibition, advancement and preservation of art, music, theater, dance, zoology, botany, natural history and cultural history.  The SCFD currently helps fund more than 300 small and large cultural facilities in the seven county Metro Area, ensuring that culture continues to thrive and organizations including Colorado Ballet continue to provide high-quality programming.

The distribution budget for scientific and cultural organizations in the seven-county area is approximately $50 million annually.  As a result, the Denver Metro Area is in the national spotlight and has been elevated in stature to a world-class cultural center.  Thank you SCFD!

Artist Darrell Anderson

Darrell Anderson paintingInternationally-known artist Darrell Anderson's awareness of community outreach is a commitment, and he recognizes the need to implement interaction with various nonprofits by creating relationships that make a difference for both organizations.  His journey with Colorado Ballet has been a shining example of what's possible with engagement and collaboration; the exhibit space at the Colorado Ballet studios provide him opportunities to showcase his creations.

Throughout Anderson's career, he has supported various nonprofits including Cherry Arts Festival as a board member, Children’s Hospital Colorado Springs and The Stout Street Foundation. He recently supported the Denver Center for Performing Arts prestigious Saturday Night Alive event by creating a painting of Tony-award winning entertainer Savion Glover, and recently worked with The Women's Foundation of Colorado by creating a painting of ABT principal dancer Misty Copeland.  He also contributed to Colorado Ballet's Firebird Gala by donating a painting of Maria Mosina, used as a live auction item.  The painting, purchased by Board of Trustees member Joanne Posner-Mayer, was donated to the Ballet where it is currently on display in the parent lounge.

Anderson's work is currently on display at Colorado Ballet and his next exhibit at the studios will be held from 6-8 p.m on Thursday, June 29, 2017 in partnership with Denver-based artist Marcia Edwards and Colorado Ballet dancer Francisco Estevez, who in his spare time is a dance photographer.  For additional information, visit or contact him at

Anderson is committed to continued engagement with the nonprofits for the purpose of uniting communities. What better way to participate, through the arts!

Always Best Care Senior Services

Friday, April 28, 2017

Erin Nichols and Mick OsterymerAlways Best Care Senior Services of Denver (ABC), under the direction of president and owner-operator Erin Nichols, has been a long-time community supporter of several of Denver’s high-profile arts and health-related organizations.

“Giving back to the community is a win-win for our team,” states Nichols, “We feel that we share common goals and objectives with our partner non-profit arts and health-related organizations and are proud to support their events and education programs.”

Since 1996, Always Best Care has helped hundreds of families with non-medical, in-home care and assisted living referral services. ABC’s passion for helping people maintain a safe, independent and dignified lifestyle represents the strong foundation of Always Best Care; every client receives extraordinary care in an inspiring environment with caring and compassionate staff.  Always Best Care Senior Services provides senior care in the Denver Metro Front Range communities from Castle Rock to Longmont. For additional information, contact Always Best Care at (303) 952-3060.

In 2016, ABC was entertainment sponsor for Colorado Ballet’s “Queen of Hearts Ball” and provided the funding for entertainment by Tony-award winner Tom Wopat.  Proceeds from the Ball were used for ballet dance scholarships, as well as for  Colorado Ballet education and community engagement programs, which make more than 30,000 contacts each year.

In 2017, ABC was presenting sponsor of The Little Mermaid ballet, performed at the June Swaner Gates Concert Hall at the Newman Center for Performing Arts. This production sold out quickly, and was instrumental in helping Colorado Ballet exceed projected ticket sales revenue for the 2016-2017 season.

Since 2014, ABC has been a significant supporter of “Saturday Night Alive,” the mega-fundraiser for the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.  SNA raises nearly $1M annually to provide funding for over 50,000 Colorado students to attend performances at the Denver Center for Performing Arts.

ABC also supports Central City Opera, and Nichols and her team members often volunteer to help increase Guild membership, help plant flowers in the opera house garden as well as help with maintenance of the historic homes used as residences for opera singers who perform during the summer Festival Season.

In addition to arts and education outreach, Nichols and her ABC team have recently supported the Alzheimer’s Association at the “Reason to Hope” event and the ALS Association in fundraising for research and patient services through participation in the “Walk to Defeat ALS” and “Ski to Defeat ALS” at Eldora Mountain Resort.
