Before the world is their stage, they train right here in Colorado.
The Colorado Ballet Academy audition for A Midsummer Night's Dream will take place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. this Saturday, August 23 at Colorado Ballet's Lincoln Street location - 1278 Lincoln Street, Denver, CO 80203. Please note that we will be moving to our new location on Saturday and due to the move, phones and e-mail have been shut down (as of today at noon), so we will not be able to check messages until Monday, August 25. The audition will take place upstairs in Studio A.
The Colorado Ballet Academy has honed the dance skills of thousands of students, as well as started the careers of many professional dancers, providing the highest quality of dance training available in the state. The Academy has a history of transitioning students into the Colorado Ballet Company as well as other companies worldwide. Students train in the same building alongside the professional Company dancers and have the opportunity to audition for roles in the Colorado Ballet's annual production of The Nutcracker.
Level 2 thru Pre-Professional students are invited to perform in supporting dance roles with the Company in other productions such as Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Giselle and Cinderella.
Pre-professional Trainee Program - Students must be invited to join the pre-professional trainee program and must meet the minimum standards regarding pointe work (for girls) and the physicality generally considered necessary for professional success in classical ballet.
Pre-professional trainee students have the option of participating in a Colorado Ballet Academy supervised online academic program. In the fall of 2014 we will have an affiliate academic high school program where students will receive their core curriculum academic classes as well as the option of taking AP level classes. When not in a concentrated academic environment students will attend 2 daily ballet technique classes, augmented with pointe, pirouette and allegro, pas de deux, modern, character, pilates, variations and choreography classes taught by Colorado Ballet Academy faculty members as well as occasional guest artists. Pre-professional trainees may be invited to perform with the Colorado Ballet Company when repertory permits. They may also perform in outreach programs at schools, community centers, and special events, as well as their own full evening performances. Our year-long program culminates in the entire schools Spring Showcase performance in mid May. At the end of each year, pre-professional students are given first priority for openings in the Colorado Ballet Studio Company as well as admittance to the following years program.
Our all inclusive training program provides a necessary base to ease the transition from student to professional dancer in a focused nurturing environment. Housing and billeting options are available on request. Click here for more information about the pre-professional program.
Studio Company members work directly with the Company throughout its season and perform with the corps de ballet as well as community sponsored performances.
Colorado Ballet Academy offers the unique opportunity to gain stage experience at a young age with our acclaimed professional ballet company as well as through student showcase performances and outreach programs. Students learn through coaching and observation the discipline imperative to preparing for performance, stage etiquette, confidence, and decorum which are inherent in performance environments.
Each year more than 60 students are selected to dance with Colorado Ballet in its celebrated production of The Nutcracker. Participation is only open to our students committed to our ballet program for the entire academic year, students are chosen by audition only, for ages 8 and up.
The School produces an annual student showcase, it is open to a paying public. Our students and teaching faculty present age appropriate pieces to demonstrate student progress for each level of training.
Other ballets that provide stage opportunities for students include Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and Cinderella. Our pre-professional students may be selected to perform with the Company and the Studio Company in some of Colorado Ballet’s largest productions.
