Ballet 4

(Ages 10+ by placement) Level 4 students continue to develop extension of the legs and strength of the feet as well as more advanced barre work, center work, port de bras, musicality and artistry. Students are assessed for pointe work, and depending on individual progression and development, students are given the opportunity to begin work en pointe in the second semester. During this progression, students become aware of the long-term goals inherent to classical ballet training. Each child’s natural abilities are fostered, and students are encouraged to pursue their passion for dance.?

More Information

Young men are offered specialized training tailored to the unique needs of men’s ballet technique. Young men in this level continue to work on the fundamentals of ballet and emphasize clarity in positions, core and back strength as they learn the foundations for men’s virtuosic technique.

Students in Level 4A and 4B will have the opportunity to study one semester of Modern and one semester of Character. Level 4 Modern will introduce fundamentals of Limon, Horton and Graham techniques. Students will continue to explore composition and improvisation. Level 4 Modern will culminate with a Saturday Soiree performance at the end of the Fall semester.

Character Dance is the stylized representation of a traditional folk or national dance, mostly from European countries, and uses movements and music which have been adapted for the theater. Examples of Character Dance are found in full length classical ballets such as Swan Lake, Coppelia, and Sleeping Beauty. Level 4 Character will introduce students to the fundamentals of this style with emphasis on positions and musicality. Character class will culminate in the Showcase performance in May.

Students in this level are eligible to participate in Colorado Ballet Academy’s Youth America Grand Prix and Denver Ballet Guild programs.
