FACULTY

Amy Anderson has been a professional dancer in Denver, Colorado, over 25 years.
She was trained at Colorado Ballet from age 9-18, San Francisco Ballet, The Joffrey Ballet and Pacific Northwest Ballet (all on scholarship). Amy also trained extensively throughout Europe. She has performed with Pacific Northwest Ballet, as a soloist with Colorado Ballet, a principal dancer with David Taylor Dance Theatre, Colorado Repertory Dance Company, and the Jan Justis Dance Company. Amy retired from David Taylor Dance Theatre in 1998 after 15 years and is currently a free lance dancer/choreographer. She also teaches and performs Argentine Tango and continues to dance professionally with Parasol Arts. Summer of 2018, Amy created her own project, a Walking Tour Production “Shoes” with much acclaim and will be continuing productions every summer, most recently July 2022. Amy has a Bachelor's Degree in dance from Loretto Heights College and has been a dance instructor for 30 years. In addition, she directed the David Taylor Ballet School and continues to teach Injury Prevention courses at local area Professional Summer Intensives. She has performed in the public schools with her own lecture demo workshop "How to Make a Dance" sponsored by the Denver Ballet Guild and Young Audiences Inc. After a serious dance-related injury in 1990, Amy began her studies as a Pilates Instructor with an emphasis on dance medicine and rehabilitation, the method in
which she was rehabilitated herself. She became certified by St. Francis Hospital in San Francisco in 1991and worked in this field as a member of Healthsouth (formerly Englewood Physical Therapy). In 1996, she moved to Colorado Center for Physical Therapy where she worked as a Dance Medicine specialist in chronic pain (for 13 years) as well as teaching and managing the Pilates and Yoga studio, Motion on Mainstreet, owned
by Colorado Center for Physical Therapy. She started her private practice, Engage Movement Arts in 2008 which she continues today as well as working on the medical team at Colorado Ballet. Her private practice was initially housed in A Living Arts Centre but has recently moved to The Denver Dance Center. Amy also teaches Dance Injury Prevention workshops at area Dance Schools as well as teaching Rehabilitative Pilates workshops. Amy taught the Anatomy in Clay® System (2012-2017) with her husband, professional dancer, Gregory Gonzales for five years. As a ballet teacher, Amy has now returned to teaching ballet as well as Pilates at the Denver Dance Center.
