SENIOR TEACHING ARTIST

Krista Brown, MA (she/her), is originally from Chicago and an alum of Indiana University’s Contemporary Dance Program, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Dance with a Journalism Certificate. While at IU, she performed works by Ihsan Rustem/Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Larry Keigwin, Paul Taylor, David Parsons, and Dayton Contemporary Dance Company. She continued her training in Israel at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and the Hasadna Workshop, as well as in Chicago on trainee scholarship with Visceral Dance Chicago under Nick Pupillo and with The Cambrians under Ben Wardell. Before moving to Denver in 2020, Krista danced with Joel Hall Dancers and co-founded the collaborative group Concept Dances with Timothy Tsang and Elijah Motley. Since relocating to Colorado, she has guested and performed with Wonderbound, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, Control Group Productions, and HOLDTIGHT.

As an interdisciplinary artist and educator, Krista holds a Master of Arts in Social and Cultural Foundations in Education from DePaul University, where her thesis, Dance Education for the Lifelong Learner, continues to inform her teaching philosophy. She also served as an adjunct professor of education at DePaul for six years, mentoring pre-service educators to think deeply about pedagogy, embodiment, and student experience.

Krista has taught throughout the Denver metro area and surrounding communities, including the Colorado Ballet Academy Children’s and Elementary Divisions, Golden Ballet Theater, Elite Dance Academy Broomfield, City of Westminster Recreation, and Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Academy. Her continuing professional development includes training with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), Body-Mind Centering (BMC), Stott Pilates, CHSAA (Colorado High School Activities Association), and the National Dance Institute (NDI). She is also a two-time recipient of the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) Professional Development Award.

Krista is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Denver and Iliff School of Theology, where she researches embodied pedagogy. She has served Colorado Ballet’s Education & Community Engagement since 2022 and remains an active member of Denver’s dance community as a teacher, mover, and advocate for accessible arts education.
