Sean Omandam

DIRECTOR OF SUMMER PROGRAMS

Sean Omandam is a seasoned artist and arts leader with more than two decades of experience as a professional ballet dancer, educator, and program developer. Originally from Fresno, California, Sean began his ballet training with Shirley Winters before continuing his studies on a full scholarship at The HARID Conservatory in Boca Raton, Florida. Upon graduating in 2004, he joined Colorado Ballet’s Studio Company, was promoted to the Company in 2005, and then to the rank of Demi-Soloist in 2019 before retiring from the Colorado Ballet stage in 2025.

During his 21-year performance career with Colorado Ballet, Sean established himself as a versatile artist, performing a broad range of soloist and principal roles in classical and contemporary repertoire. His noted roles include the title role in George Balanchine’s Prodigal Son, Puck in Christopher Wheeldon’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Champion Roper in Agnes de Mille’s Rodeo, White Rabbit in Septime Webre’s ALICE (In Wonderland), Jester in Ben Stevenson’s Cinderella, Tin Man in Septime Webre's Wizzard of Oz, Whip Boy in Glen Tetley’s The Rite of Spring, Max in Septime Webre’s Where the Wild Things Are, and Green Man in Lila York’s Celts. His repertoire also includes featured roles in works by Jirí Kylián, Lar Lubovitch, Val Caniparoli, Amy Seiwert, Edwaard Liang, Matthew Neenan, Jodie Gates, Dwight Rhoden, and Jessica Lang, among others.

Beyond the Colorado Ballet stage, Sean has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to supporting artists and expanding opportunities within the performing arts. In 2011, he founded Fancy Footwork and the Next Step Fund, an annual performance and fundraising initiative created to provide Colorado Ballet artists with small grants to support business and educational opportunities that help them pursue careers beyond the stage. In 2013, Sean was featured as a contestant on the premiere season of the South Korean television series Dancing 9, and in 2014 he was featured in Pointe Magazine’s October/November “Dancer Spotlight.”

Sean’s leadership within Colorado Ballet Academy began in 2014, when he joined the Summer Intensive team as a Resident Assistant. He progressed to Resident Manager in 2015 and assumed the position of Summer Intensive Operations Manager in 2022. In 2025, following his retirement from the Colorado Ballet stage, Sean was promoted to the role of Director of Summer Programs.

As Director or Summer Programs, Sean provides strategic and operational leadership for the Academy’s expanding summer programming and initiatives. Under his guidance, the programs have continued to grow in scope and reach, including, the development of the Choreographic Workshop into a distinctive mountain-based experience in Aspen, Colorado, and the expansion of the Young Dancer Summer Intensive. Most recently, he is venturing on a new collaboration with Gold Standard Arts Foundation to establish programming within Colorado Ballet Academy’s Summer Intensive specifically designed to support and mentor AAPI students.

Drawing on his experience as a professional artist, educator, and mentor, Sean brings a comprehensive perspective to arts leadership, with a focus on creating meaningful opportunities and experiences for students and artists alike.
