Sophia blasco

TEACHING ARTIST

Sophia grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she started dancing ballet at the age of 13. She was given the opportunity to take dance classes at her school through Nevada Ballet Theatre’s Future Dance Program. Despite starting later in life, she was able to cultivate a love of classical ballet and technique. With her dedication and commitment, she earned a full scholarship to continue her dance studies at the Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre.

Moving to Colorado in 2014, she continued her training at Denver Ballet Theatre as a pre-professional ballet student under the choreographic direction of David Taylor. Through this, she had formal training in Vaganova ballet technique, pas de deux, and classical character dancing. She also explored other dancing styles, such as contemporary, tap, modern, and lyrical. She performed in many full-length classical ballets with the company, such as Don Quixote, Paquita, The Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadere and Coppélia. With her training, she was also given the opportunity to be a dance instructor for the creative dance and pre-ballet classes.

Currently, Sophia is a student at the University of Colorado Boulder majoring in
Integrative Physiology and Spanish Language and Literature. Sophia is excited to be
a part of the Colorado Ballet Education & Community Engagement department as a bilingual teaching artist!
