How are students chosen for the Pre-Professional Division?

We look at dancers with regard to previous classical ballet training, coach ability, physical attributes, strength, focus and potential for a successful career in ballet. Students may audition online through, at our Summer Intensive or at an audition site listed on our website. Students to may also be allowed to audition in a regularly scheduled class with current students during the school year.

How do Auditions work for the Pre-Professional Division?

Students may audition during our Summer Intensive or via video which can be submitted through Students who auditioned for our Summer Intensive, were placed in our highest level and who checked that they were interested in the Pre-Professional Division are some of those invited to participate. Many students interested in our program are either graduating high school this spring or already enrolled in online academics for high school.

Where do Pre-Professional Division students live and go to school who aren't from Denver?

Generally about half of our PP students are in high school since they can start with us as young as 14. We leave it to parents and students to choose the right online program for them and Colorado Ballet doesn’t provide tutors or academic counselling. There is a great apartment complex where a nice group of Company, Studio Company and Pre-Professional students live just 2 blocks from our studios, called the Parkway Marquis. Dancers share 2-4 students to a 2 bedroom apartment. Apartment stays are unchaperoned. Host family living, where a student may rent a bedroom through an academy family, is sometimes preferred for students under 17.

When can students join the Division?

At the start of each semester beginning September or January.
