Founded in 1951 by Lillian Covillo and Freidann Parker, the Raydean Acevedo Colorado Ballet Academy is the official school of Colorado Ballet. Under the leadership of Colorado Ballet Artistic Director Gil Boggs and Academy Director Erica Fischbach, CBA is the premier training institution in the state, with programming sought after by serious ballet students worldwide.

In the spring of 2018, Colorado Ballet Academy (CBA) was named after long-time trustee, Raydean Acevedo. Raydean serves as the co-chair of the Academy Committee for the Colorado Ballet Board of Trustees, and the impact of her commitment, passion and generosity cannot be overstated. We are proud to have such a tremendous friend and advocate in Raydean. Naming the Academy after her was a small way to honor her extraordinary contributions to Colorado Ballet.

Our Home

Located in eight state-of-the-art studios near downtown Denver, students train alongside the professional Company with faculty who have lived highly successful careers with renowned companies such as American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, The Bolshoi Ballet, Dutch National Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada and Colorado Ballet.

Colorado Ballet Academy’s curriculum is grounded in formal classical ballet technique and follows the traditional classical sequence of training, to increase each student’s technical skill, stamina and artistry. Elements of the Russian, French and Italian schools are taught according to age and physical development, resulting in finished dancers with clean and virtuosic technique, brilliant artistry, stylistic versatility and the prowess to thrive in the diverse choreographic demands of professional dancers today.

Performance opportunities are a priority for all Colorado Ballet Academy students. Levels 1 through Pre-Professional Division participate in a full-length classical production at the beautiful Ellie Caulkins Opera House each May. Students in Levels 2 and up have the opportunity to audition to perform with Colorado Ballet in Company productions such as The Nutcracker, Wizard of Oz, Sleeping Beauty and additional performances during the Company season, repertory permitting.

Advanced levels participate in an additional classical production during Fall Feature and have the opportunity to perform regularly in Colorado Ballet’s Black Box Theater during Saturday Soirees and First Friday Art Walks. Students from CBA Children’s Division are showcased each May along with Jazz, Modern, and Tap students to show off their skills during the year-end performance in Colorado Ballet’s Black Box Theater. Supplemental training and performance opportunities are available through Youth America Grand Prix, Denver Ballet Guild and community performances.
