Audio Description (AD)

This is a form of narration providing key information regarding the visual elements of what occurs on stage. Individual headsets are available at no additional cost on select dates for each production and available to blind, low-vision, or other patrons seeking this service. These selected performances are narrated live by Amy Ogden.

Note: Patrons may request audio description for a different performance date but must make the request at least two weeks in advance. Headsets can be checked out coat check located on the left side of the Ellie Caulkins Opera House lobby before the performance.

TOUCH TOURS

NO COST option for those who are blind or have low vision and purchase Audio Described tickets. If patrons are interested in participating in a touch tour, this will occur 1.5 – 2 hours before curtain and will last 30 – 45 minutes. Tours are available on audio-described dates (see below) and must be requested by Friday prior to the desired performance. The touch tour includes:  

- Listening to rehearsal on stage (if approved). 
- A meet and greet with a Colorado Ballet dancer or staff member (as available). 
- Access to touch and feel set pieces, props, and costumes. 
- Time to learn more about the production and ask questions of to the audio describer or staff.

The Ellie Caulkins Opera House has installed a ListenTech assistive listening system for those experiencing hearing loss To access, check out the receivers wat coat check. There are staff to assist you with the equipment. The receivers have a volume control knob. Please note:  

For those who do not have telecoils and without hearing aids in their hearing aids: check out a receiver/headphones, or bring personal, wired headphones to plug into the borrowed receiver (3.5 mm jack).  

For those with telecoils in their hearing aids/cochlear implants. Pick up a receiver with a neckloop attachment. To access the system, switch your hearing instrument to T or Telecoil program.

Wheelchair Accessible & Companion Seating

DETAILS

The Ellie Caulkins Opera House has designated wheelchair accessible and companion seating locations. Wheelchair accessible seats are made available when general production tickets are released and available to the public. Ticket requests will be accommodated on a first-come, first-serve basis. 

For tickets, select the desired production, view the seat maps, then look for the accessible seating icon. Every section on the map has accessible seats. For assistance with your purchase, contact the ticket office: 303-339-1637, tickets@coloradoballet.org 

Ramps are located throughout the Denver Performing Arts Complex starting curbside at 14th and Curtis streets. Additional drop-off locations at curbside ramps are located at 13th Street underneath the Arts Complex and outside the Jones Theatre at the corner of Speer & Arapahoe. Wheelchair ramps are located in the parking garage on levels 3, 4 and 5. Lobby ushers in each theatre can direct patrons on interior elevators and ramps, which lead to wheelchair seating.

This includes wobble stools in a box, wobble cushions for chairs, and/or space for people in your party to stand or move around. 

Request alternative seating options. A member of our patron services team will contact you for payment after the form is submitted. The alternative seating options are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

DETAILS

The "Figaro" seatback titling system has been made possible by the generous support of Dr. Charles B. Kafadar given in honor of his wife Ursula. The live captions provide key synopsis and character details at targeted points throughout the performance. At the start of the performance, audience members can select whether they would like their subtitle cues in English, Spanish, or turned off.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. coloradoballet.org is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard. Colorado Ballet is currently taking steps to improve web accessibility and become more conformant with WCAG 2.1.
