2021 Spring CLASSES

VIRTUAL CLASSES BEGIN January 11, 2021

Children’s Division classes are for children ages 1 ½ through 7+ years of age. Classes in this division include Parent Tot, Creative Dance 1, Creative Dance 2, Pre-Ballet 1, Pre-Ballet 2 and Ballet Level 1. Parent Tot

(Ages 1 ½-3 years with a Parent or Guardian) Specifically designed to instill the joy of movement and music at a very young age, Parent Tot emphasizes gross motor skill development, coordination, balance, imagination and bonding in an encouraging and nurturing environment. For the benefit of students attending this class we request only one adult per student.

Sessions (1-4)
Session 1: The Wonders of Winter

January 11 - February 9 (no classes 1/18, 1/19)

Parents, Caregivers and their young dancers will dance to Waltz of the Snowflakes from Nutcracker and Vivaldi’s Winter as they explore the wonders of our beautiful Colorado winters. The energy and movements of gently falling snow and sharp, angular icicles along with winter themed interactive exercises and music will foster imagination and growth.

Session 2: Love is in the Air

February 15 - March 20 (no classes 2/24 - 27)

Parents, Caregivers and their young dancers will be introduced to Cupid from the ballet Don Quixote and the love story between the characters Kitri and Basilio. Feelings of happiness, caring and love through movement, music, shapes and patterns associated with these feelings will be explored through movement and music. Love is in the Air is designed to help our youngest students cope with the stresses of the current pandemic and is sure to help our adults as well!

Session 3: Signs of Spring

March 22 - April 24 (no classes 3/29 - 4/3)

Parents, Caregivers and their young dancers will dance for the change of season through Vivaldi’s Spring and the Spring Variation from the ballet Cinderella. New growth and rebirth will be explored through imaginative movements representing dormant winter life waking up after a long rest. Seedlings growing, flowers opening and birds hatching and more will be expressed through dance and music.

Session 4: A Trip to Italy

April 26 - May 22 (finishes one week after regular Academy classes)

Parents, Caregivers and their young dancers will take an imaginary trip to Italy as they explore the ballet Flower Festival at Genzano. Participants will learn about the different flowers, vibrant floral arrangements and related festivities celebrated at this annual Italian tradition as they paint an imaginary, colorful picture incorporating shapes, levels, dance movements and music.

If minimum enrollment is not reached the Thursday prior to the first class, classes may be combined or canceled.

Creative Dance 1

(Ages 3-4 years) Students will be introduced to the concepts of body and spatial awareness as well as the use of imagination in movement and musicality. Boys and girls begin identifying basic forms of movement through dance games, songs, music and rhythmical patterns.

Creative Dance 2

(Ages 4-5 years) Young boys and girls continue their development by identifying basic forms of movement through imaginative games, songs, music and rhythmical patterns at an age appropriate level while continuing to foster independence. Students learn concepts of body and spatial awareness, use of energy, taking direction from their instructor and sharing turns with peers.

Pre-Ballet 1

(Ages 5-6) Boys and girls are introduced to beginning concepts of ballet including turn out, coordination, spatial awareness and class etiquette. Students continue to use their imagination to foster young artistry as they focus on musicality and increase their movement vocabulary.

(Ages 6-7) Students continue to increase their understanding of ballet with enhanced development of ballet concepts including turn out, coordination, spatial awareness, and a specific focus on class etiquette. Classical positions of the feet and additional classical movement vocabulary is emphasized in preparation for Level 1 readiness.

Ballet Level 1

(Ages 7+) Ballet Level 1 boys and girls learn the beginning fundamentals of classical ballet. Class will focus on basic ballet technique, proper body alignment, French terminology, musicality and imaginative artistry. Students will be introduced to elementary barre and center work, and boys will learn conditioning specific to boys’ technique. This class is offered once a week. Ages 7+ as of October 1.

Beginner Tap Levels 1-2

Students will be introduced to tap technique and terminology as they build their skills in musicality, sound clarity, speed, and style. Tappers can expect to learn double and triple time steps, 3 & 5 beat riffs, pull backs, pick ups, turns and intricate rhythms. All Tap classes culminate with a showcase performance in May.
