CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

absolute beginning

Adult Absolute Beginner Ballet is intended for our adult students with little to no previous training. This class will provide adult students with an introduction to basic ballet vocabulary and technique which will serve as a solid foundation to build from as they continue to progress with their ballet training.

Adult Beginning

Suitable for the beginner teen/ adult as well as students who would like to work in a slower paced environment, this class progresses slowly and is open to adult beginners at any point in the semester. Attention is paid to proper body alignment, use of the legs and feet, and developing movement sequences through coordination of the arms and head. Students are encouraged to follow more experienced students as well as ask questions when needed. Like all of our open classes, this class is subject to the needs of the overall attendees of each class.

Adult Intermediate

This class welcomes student’s teen/adult with at least 3 years of committed ballet training. Students attending this class are expected to know basic barre and center vocabulary as well as simple petite allegro, pirouettes, combinations from the corner and grand allegro. Like all of our open classes, this class is subject to the needs of the overall attendees of each class.

WHO CAN TAKE ADULT DANCE CLASSES?

CBA’s Adult Dance Classes are open to the public. You do not need to be a student or affiliate of Colorado Ballet to participate. Classes are co-ed and open to students 18+ years old. We welcome all interested people to participate in Adult Dance Classes at CBA.

can I take a class for free to try it out?

We do not offer free classes, but recommend you take a class at the drop-in rate of $25 to determine if it will be a good fit for you.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT LEVEL I'M IN? DO I HAVE TO STAY IN THIS LEVEL?

Adult classes are self-leveled. We recommend reading the class descriptions on our website to get a better idea of the material covered in each class. If you take a class and feel it is not an appropriate level, you are welcome to move up or down according to your comfort level. All classes can be taken on a drop-in basis and we encourage you to try different classes and instructors to find one that suits you.

what do i wear?

Adults are encouraged to wear whatever they feel comfortable moving in. Leotards and tights are often chosen, but Adults are welcome to wear their favorite workout attire that covers the torso and legs.

Ballet shoes are recommended instead of socks for their added traction on the Marley dance floor. Rosin is not allowed at Colorado Ballet’s studios. CBA does not sell ballet shoes. These may be purchased at several dance stores in Denver and surrounding areas.

i did not use all of my punches on my punch card before it expired. may i get a refund or roll over to unused punches to a new card?

The 5 and the 10 punch cards have an expiration date of 90 days after the date of purchase. Refunds, transfers, or credits will not be given for unused punches.

i purchased my punch card at the end of the spring semester. May i use it during the summer adult dance classes?

Yes! As long as your card has not expired, you may use your punch card for any Adult Dance Class during the entire year.

where do i go when i arrive?

The main entrance for the building is on the west side through the parking lot off of 11th Ave. Once you arrive you must visit the front desk to sign in. The studio assignments will be given upon check in. Please note that studios may change at any given time due to Company and Academy scheduling.

when should i arrive?

If you have a punch-card, plan on arriving 5-10 minutes before the class to check in at the front desk and receive your studio assignment.

If you did not pre-register online, please arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time of class. We must complete registration for you at the front desk and receive payment before you can enter class.

can i pay in person or only online?

Both! Paying online saves time and will get you into the studio faster. If you are unable to complete your purchase online, please allow time before class begins to register before entering class. Upon completion of payment, you will receive two online waivers that will need to be completed before your first class.

can i park in the colorado ballet lot?

Unfortunately, we do not have public parking in our lot. Our parking lot is reserved for company and staff members from 9:00am – 6:00pm, Monday through Saturday. There are two visitor spots open for anyone to use. We encourage you to find parking along any of the streets surrounding Colorado Ballet, but keep an eye on the signs for parking limitations and restrictions.

can i come early or stay after class to work on my own or stretch?

For general safety reasons, we are unable to allow a student in the classroom without an instructor present. Many times, classes run back-to-back and there is not available space for warm up.

how will i know if an instructor has arranged for a substitute?

As often as possible we let students know ahead of time if a substitute instructor has been arranged. Substitutions may occur last minute and, unfortunately, we are not able to update this information online. Upon check-in at the front desk, we will let you know of any last-minute changes. If you choose to take the class, you will be charged. No refunds will be given once the class has started due to instructor changes.

the class i was attending was cancelled. why does this occur?

Classes must consistently have an average of four students. Every semester, classes are evaluated on their attendance within the first full month of sessions. Colorado Ballet Academy reserves the right to cancel any class that is not meeting the minimum required number of students to run the class.
