Colorado Ballet Academy has focused training for male dancers starting at age 5. Students will learn the fundamentals of ballet and supplement their training with specialized technique and conditioning. These male only classes capture the energetic nature of male dancers where they push themselves and each other to improve in a supportive environment that focuses on athleticism, strength, grace, coordination, camaraderie and discipline.
Our Male Ballet Training Program is designed to support the physicality and the athleticism necessary to succeed in the professional field. Specific male’s technique classes and conditioning are tailored to maximize student’s potential while remaining mindful of the body’s needs. Our facility provides a fully equipped room for body conditioning, pilates, weightlifting and cardio. At CBA, we believe that training the body daily, along with proper form and technique, is crucial for injury prevention and longevity.

Ballet Level 1 and Ballet Level 2
(Ages 7+) Ballet Level 1 Males learn to impart the fundamental of classical ballet. Class will focus on basic ballet technique, proper upper body alignment, French terminology and musicality. Students will be introduced to elementary barre and center work. In addition to their regular technique class, Ballet Level 1 Males will have a Male’s only weekly class that will focus on the specific details of the male technique.
(Ages 8+) Male dancers are invited to Ballet Level 2 after they have
demonstrated full understanding of the previous level. Body alignment, muscle awareness, and focus will determine progress. Class will focus on positions of the arms, placement, direction of the body, and
increased movement vocabulary. In addition to their regular technique
class, Ballet Level 2 Males will have a Male’s only weekly class to start introducing fundamentals of male technique.
Male students learn
to impart the fundamentals of classical ballet. Class will focus on basic ballet technique, proper body alignment, French terminology,
musicality and conditioning specific to males’ technique. Students will be introduced to elementary barre and center work.
Male students are encouraged and
welcome to participate in additional classes offered for this level, which include Modern and Jazz.
TRAINING INFORMATION
Ballet Level 3 and Ballet Level 4
(Ages 9+, by placement) In Ballet Level 3, additional attention is paid to the proper extension of the legs and shape of the feet. Male students
will see an increase in difficulty in barre and center work as they develop movement sequences, port de bras and balance. Students begin
focus on repetition and retention. Ballet Level 3 begins eligibility for participation in
Colorado Ballet Academy’s Youth America Grand Prix and Denver Ballet Guild programs.
Males enrolled in Ballet Level 3 receive specialized
training tailored to the unique needs of ballet technique for males. Students continue to work on ballet fundamentals emphasizing clarity in positions and core and back strength as they learn
the foundations for traditional virtuosic technique in male dancers.
Male students are encouraged and welcome to
participate in additional classes offered for this level, which include Modern and Jazz.
(Ages 10+ by placement) Ballet Level 4 students deepen their understanding of ballet fundamentals and the level of commitment
required for excellence. Barre and center work combinations become more advanced as
students work on sequences, transition steps, and stamina. Students in this level are eligible to participate in Colorado Ballet Academy’s Youth America Grand Prix and Denver Ballet Guild
programs.
Males enrolled in Ballet Level 4 receive specialized
training tailored to the unique needs of ballet technique in male dancers. Students continue to work on ballet fundamentals emphasizing clarity in positions and core and back strength as they
learn the foundations for virtuosic technique in male dancers.
Jazz and Modern Dance are included in Ballet Level 4 curriculum as essential forms of dance required to develop well rounded dancers.
TRAINING INFORMATION
Ballet Level 5, Ballet Level 6 and Ballet Level 7
(Ages 11+, by placement) Training intensifies as students mature and gain more knowledge of the classical ballet vocabulary. Classes focus on pointe work, pirouettes, use of the head and
upper body, fluidity of port de bras, and clarity of Allegro. Students in this level are eligible to participate in Colorado Ballet Academy’s Youth America Grand Prix and Denver Ballet Guild
programs.
Male dancers receive a more advanced, specialized training to refine the fundamentals of ballet, emphasize clarity in positions,
develop core and back strength, and essential foundations for virtuosic technique in male dancers.
In addition to Ballet, Stretch and Condition, and Men’s class, Level
5 males’ curriculum includes Intermediate Character and Contemporary.
Males are encouraged and welcome to participate in additional classes offered for this level,
which Extra Ballet/Variations, and Levels 4/5 Jazz/Modern.
The Colorado Ballet Academy Males’s Training Program is designed to support the physicality and athleticism necessary to succeed in the professional field. Male students in the Advanced Division have a well-crafted schedule tailored to support the diverse demands of dance today. Classes include Male Specific Ballet, Male Variations, Pas De deux and Male specific Body Conditioning.
