Performances at Green Box Arts Festival and Vail Dance Festival
Denver, CO (May 20, 2025) – Leading into the company’s 65th season, Colorado Ballet is celebrating a vibrant summer of dance as they will enjoy the opportunity to perform at two festivals. It’s an honor for Colorado Ballet to take the stage as the headlining performing arts event for the 17th annual Green Box Arts Festival, taking place June 27 – July 12, 2025 in Green Mountain Falls, CO. Additionally, Vail Dance Festival Artistic Director Damian Woetzel invited Colorado Ballet to participate in the 37th annual internationally acclaimed Vail Dance Festival as one of five major companies presenting specially curated performances, July 25 – Aug 5, 2025 in Vail, CO and throughout the Vail Valley.
Colorado Ballet’s Artistic Director, Gil Boggs, elaborated on the selected repertoire the company will present, beginning with a series of performances at Green Box Arts Festival featuring excerpts from Sleeping Beauty alongside several works choreographed by Sandra Brown, including The Caged Bird Sings, set to Aleksey Chistilin’s “Pictures from the Past” with poetry selections from Maya Angelou, read by Demi-Soloist Ariel McCarty. Colorado Ballet will also perform the premiere of a new contemporary work which the company commissioned choreographer Yoshihisa Arai to create for the upcoming season’s final repertory production, MasterWorks; the work features 15 dancers choreographed to Rachmaninoff’s “Piano Concerto No. 2.”
“I also want to acknowledge the privilege of returning a second consecutive year to Vail Dance Festival, where the company will perform Concerto Barocco with guest artists from New York City Ballet as part of a special Balanchine Celebration night,” shared Boggs. “We will also participate in additional programs Dancing in the Park and International Evenings of Dance. Events such as these offer rewarding and enriching experiences for our dancers to expand their networks and be inspired artistically while having additional opportunities to perform,” he continued.
For Colorado Ballet’s Executive Director Sameed Afghani, festival programming such as this offers a unique and personal way for the company to meaningfully engage in the community: “I am excited to introduce new audiences outside of the Denver metro area to classical ballet and innovative contemporary work from world-renowned choreographers like Yoshihisa Arai, alongside educational community-focused workshops. There’s going to be something for audiences of all ages to appreciate the joy of dance, and we hope you’ll join us!” added Afghani.
