Colorado Ballet’s Education & Community
Engagement works closely with
community and educational partners to provide meaningful, accessible dance and arts experiences. Through initiatives like Warren Village, Growing Scientists, and Five by Five, we engage
diverse populations from children in Title I schools to families and community
organizations, offering workshops, residencies, creative movement classes, and
performance opportunities. Our Teaching Artists and staff collaborate with partner organizations to tailor programming to the needs, interests, and abilities of each group, connecting dance
and movement to broader educational, social, and cultural goals.

Since 2005, Colorado Ballet has provided free creative movement classes for students in the Warren Village Learning Center. Warren Village helps low-income, previously homeless single parent families move from public assistance to personal and economic self-sufficiency through subsidized housing, on-site nationally accredited child care, intensive case management, education guidance and career development. Along with learning locomotor movements and basic ballet steps, the students also learn the etiquette of attending a dance class, refine gross motor skills, express themselves through movement, work on problem solving and work together to improve social and emotional skills.
The Growing Scientists: Sparking STEAM in Early Learners partnership is a multi-institutional STEAM education collaborative between Butterfly Pavilion, Denver Botanic Gardens, Bird Conservancy of the Rockies, Colorado Ballet, and the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Established in 2003, the program supports Title I schools across the Denver metro area by providing elementary teachers with curriculum support and engaging students in culturally relevant, hands-on science experiences that connect science with the arts and other disciplines. Each partner serves as a lead agency for specific grade levels, offering classroom programs, field trips, and family engagement opportunities aligned with their area of expertise, from life sciences to physical science and the human body. Together, the partners coordinate curriculum, professional development, Family Science Nights, and evaluation through a shared leadership structure. This collaborative model strengthens access to both formal and informal learning environments while positioning each organization as an accessible educational resource for students, educators, and families.
The Five by Five Program, led by the Denver Office of Children’s Affairs, provides Head Start families with opportunities for children to experience five cultural activities by the age of five.
