Colorado Ballet Academy students in Levels 1 through our Pre-Professional Division have the extraordinary opportunity to participate in the annual full-length classical ballet production at the magnificent Ellie Caulkins
Opera House in downtown Denver in May. Each class features age appropriate original and adapted choreography in ballets such as Swan Lake, Coppélia and Giselle. The experience of being a part of a large-scale production gives students countless lifelong skills, an ultimate sense of accomplishment and comradery, and
the thrill of telling a story through dance.

Students are invited to Ballet Level 2 once they have demonstrated full understanding of the concepts covered in Ballet 1. Body alignment, muscle awareness, and focus most heavily impact progress in ballet technique. Ballet Level 2 students explore expanded skills in the fundamentals of ballet technique, proper body alignment, French terminology, musicality, and imaginative artistry while increasing movement, strength, and flexibility.
Ballet Level 2 students attend class twice per week for two hours. Class curriculum includes ballet technique, stretch and condition, and music for dancers.
The Level 2 music program will teach students a basic understanding of music as it applies to ballet dancers and foster an appreciation and love for the music that is the driving force behind ballet. Students will become familiar with different time signatures and different rhythms such as waltz, mazurka, polka, and gallop. They will learn what a musical preparation to an exercise is and how to count it, as well as how to count the different dance rhythms. Classical ballet music repertoire such as Tchaikovsky, Chopin, and Adam will be introduced, and students will begin to understand which music is appropriate for an adagio as opposed to a tendu or petit allegro.
