Colorado Ballet Academy students in Levels 1 through our Pre-Professional Division have the extraordinary opportunity to participate in the annual full-length classical ballet production at the magnificent Ellie Caulkins Opera House in downtown Denver in May. Each class is featured in age appropriate original and adapted choreography in ballets such as Swan Lake, Coppelia and Giselle. The experience of being a part of a large-scale production gives students countless lifelong skills, an ultimate sense of accomplishment and comradery along with the thrill of telling a story through dance during Memorial Day weekend.
(Ages 7+) Ballet Level 1 commences the first year of formal classical ballet training. Students are introduced to Colorado Ballet Academy’s progressive curriculum and the fundamentals of classical ballet. Ballet Level 1 students will focus on developing important skills and body awareness during this formative year including proper posture and body alignment, coordination and strength, musicality, imaginative artistry and French terminology.

Boys in Ballet Level 1 receive additional conditioning specific to boys’ technique.
Students shall have the right to dress in accordance with their gender identity, within the dress code requirements stated by CBA.
*Recommended SoDanca tights and shoes can be purchased at Dance Xtreme in Centennial. All CBA students receive a 10% discount.
All uniforms must be purchased online by June 18 to ensure arrival by first day of classes.

Students in Ballet Level 1 are given the option to add Level 1 Modern and Levels 1-2 Beginner Tap.
Students in Levels 1 Modern will begin to explore forms of movement that are different from their ballet class, gaining an understanding of how the different techniques complement each other. Modern dance class develops core strength, placement, coordination, origination of power and creativity, and is an essential form of dance training for the diverse repertoire of movement required of professional dancers today.All Modern classes culminate with a showcase performance in Colorado Ballet’s Black Box Theater in May.

Students will be introduced to tap technique and terminology as they build their skills in musicality, sound clarity, speed, and style. Tappers can expect to learn double and triple time steps, 3 & 5 beat riffs, pull backs, pick ups, turns and intricate rhythms. All Tap classes culminate with a showcase performance in May.

(Ages 8+) Boys and girls are invited to Ballet Level 2 after they have demonstrated a full understanding of the previous level. Body alignment, muscle awareness and focus will determine progress. Ballet Level 2 students explore expanded skills in the fundamentals of ballet technique, proper body alignment, French terminology, musicality and imaginative artistry while increasing movement, strength and flexibility. Second year Ballet Level 2 students add Conditioning to their curriculum to enhance muscle awareness and core strength.
Boys continue their focus on conditioning specific to boys’ technique in addition to Level 2 curriculum skills. Boys in Ballet Level 2 will attend Boys Beginning Ballet on Mondays and Ballet Level 2D on Wednesdays.

This class provides an introduction to Jazz dance with a modern flair! Students will be provided a thorough grounding in jazz terminology and technique while exploring a variety of styles including classical Jazz, musical theater, Jazz Funk and lyrical/contemporary. The warm-up and progressions will develop musicality, athleticism, alignment and coordination. Upon completion of this course a lucid engagement of concepts should be applicable towards movement clarity, technical prowess and full body expression of movement. All Jazz classes culminate with a showcase performance in May.
