Colorado Ballet Announces Record Breaking Ticket Sales, Plus 2019/2020 Season

DENVER, CO (February 5, 2019) – Colorado Ballet’s production of The Wizard of Oz exceeded $1 million dollars in ticket sales, making it the highest selling production in the company’s history outside of its Nutcracker programming. Additionally, the company is on track for the current 2018/2019 season to mark the fifth consecutive, all-time highest selling season in Colorado Ballet’s history. Two years ago, Colorado Ballet brought in the highest revenue in their history when they broke $4 million in ticket sales. This season, the company has already brought in $5.1 million in ticket sales revenue.

The 2018 production of The Nutcracker marked the all-time highest selling production in Colorado Ballet’s history, bringing in just under $3 million dollars. Last month, the company hit its overall 2018/2019 season ticket sales revenue goal of $4.7 million dollars and met its goal for season subscription ticket sales. Subscription sales revenue for the current season is 50 percent above last season.

With these results, Colorado Ballet continues to solidify its fiscal stability and experience substantial growth. Additionally, the company continues to shine artistically in all areas of presenting world-class productions, positioning itself to rank among the most respected and acclaimed ballet companies in the country. 2019/2020 SEASON ANNOUNCEMENT

Today, Artistic Director Gil Boggs announced the 2019/2020 season, which will again feature five productions at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, coming off the heels of the current season’s resounding success in which the company presented five productions at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House for the first time since 2007. The 2019/2020 season will feature Don Quixote, The Nutcracker, Peter Pan, Tour de Force and Ballet MasterWorks.

“I am honored to announce the 2019/2020 season. As a part of our mission, we are committed to offering something for everyone with a variety of eclectic and complementary programming,” stated Boggs. “We couldn’t be happier to bring back Don Quixote and Peter Pan, last seen in 2009 and 2012 respectively, as well as our beloved production of The Nutcracker and some really exciting and dynamic 20th century and contemporary repertoire.”

• The 2019/20 season will open on Friday, October 4 at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House with nine performances of Don Quixote running through October 13, 2019. Based on the classic novel, The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha, the ballet Don Quixote remains one of today’s most frequently performed works with original classical choreography by Marius Petipa, restaged for this production by Colorado Ballet’s Artistic Director Gil Boggs and Ballet Mistresses Sandra Brown and Lorita Travaglia. This production delights with stunning Spanish sets and costumes. Follow Don Quixote and Sancho Panza as they search for a noble adventure, leading to a band of gypsies, dreams and a surprising turn of events.
  
  
• Audiences simply can’t get enough of Colorado Ballet’s acclaimed production of The Nutcracker.Returning for its 59th season, this beloved holiday favorite sells out every year, and runs from November 30 – December 24, 2019. Experience this whimsical trip to the sugar plum kingdom where magical dances come alive. Last year’s production hit record breaking ticket sales, so patrons will want to secure their seats early for this holiday tradition as most performances fill up prior to opening night.
  
  
• In winter 2020, Colorado Ballet will present eight performances of Michael Pink’s popular Peter Pan from January 31 – February 9, 2020. Peter Pan will take audiences on a high-flying adventure to Never, Never Land where Peter Pan, Wendy, John and Michael experience pirates, Lost Boys, Captain Hook, an infamous crocodile and a little bit of pixie dust as this brilliant story unfolds. With choreography by Michael Pink and music by Philip Feeney, this ballet features the same artistic duo that created the acclaimed ballet Dracula, which Colorado audiences will recall from sold-out performances in fall of 2017.
  
  
• This season’s Tour de Force program, March 6-8, 2020, continues in the spirit of innovative dance with dynamic and acclaimed contemporary works. Colorado Ballet’s dancers will open the program with Feast of the Gods by choreographer Edwaard Liang, who won the Prince Prize for Choreography and was nominated for the Golden Mast Award in Russia for Best Production. The program will include the world premiere of an all-new work, and close with Celts, by choreographer Lila York. • To close the 2019/2020 season, Colorado Ballet presents monumental favorites in Ballet MasterWorks, April 3-12, 2020. Featuring Petite Mort by choreographer Jiří Kylián and Twyla Tharp’s In The Upper Room, this program showcases works that profoundly impacted the art form and remain central masterpieces of the 20th century ballet repertoire.
