Colorado Ballet Celebrates the 65th Anniversary of The Nutcracker with Performances November 29-December 28, 2025

Denver, CO (November 18, 2025)Colorado Ballet celebrates the 65th anniversary of The Nutcracker with performances at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House from November 29-December 28, 2025. Presented by PNC Bank, The Nutcracker will feature five different casts of dancers and live music performed by the Colorado Ballet Orchestra.

"For 65 years, Colorado Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker has been a cherished holiday tradition,” said Artistic Director Gil Boggs. “It is truly a privilege to perform this beautiful ballet for our audiences each season, and I am grateful to our patrons who continue to make The Nutcracker a part of their annual holiday traditions.”

Additionally, for the fourth year in a row, Colorado Ballet will present a sensory friendly performance on Sunday, November 30, 2025 at 1:00PM. This performance will feature sensory friendly adaptations including eliminating or reducing potentially startling special effects, lighting and sounds, and relaxing traditional house rules, such as allowing patrons to move freely within the theater during the performance and to exit and reenter as needed.

About The Nutcracker
Based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s timeless story, The Nutcracker follows Clara and her Nutcracker Prince on an enchanted journey into the Land of Snow and the Kingdom of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Replete with mischievous dancing mice, sweet Sugar Plums and a symphony of swirling snowflakes, the ballet features Tchaikovsky’s beloved score performed live by the Colorado Ballet Orchestra.

Performance Information
Retiring in 2026 after 20 seasons with the company, Colorado Ballet Soloist Kevin Gaël Thomas will perform the role of Nutcracker Prince for the last season. Stay tuned for exact casting!

Sensory Friendly Performance
On November 30 at 1:00 p.m., Colorado Ballet will present a Sensory-Friendly performance of The Nutcracker. This performance will feature sensory friendly adaptations including eliminating or reducing potentially startling special effects, lighting and sounds, and relaxing traditional house rules, such as allowing patrons to move freely within the theater during the performance and to exit and reenter as needed. The house lights in the theater will be left on at a low level during the performance and a break space will be provided in the lobby. Returning to the home of its 1997 inception for the first time in a decade, Colorado Ballet presents Christopher Wheeldon’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. With new sets and costumes designed by Robert Perdziola, our dancers of today breathe fresh, new character into this iconic work, which Colorado Ballet originally commissioned Wheeldon to create on the company. Shakespeare’s comical play comes to life alongside Felix Mendelssohn’s score performed by the Colorado Ballet Orchestra.

MasterWorks, Colorado Ballet’s annual repertory production, returns with a captivating trio of powerhouse masterpieces that put artistic excellence and innovation on full display—Concerto Barocco by George Balanchine; The Rite of Spring by Glen Tetley with the Igor Stravinsky score that revolutionized and radicalized original audiences; and the world premiere of a new contemporary work by Yoshihisa Arai commissioned by Colorado Ballet, choreographed to Rachmaninoff’s “Piano Concerto No. 2.”
